 RUNNING U LIVESTOCK
RANCH HORSE FUTURITY INCENTIVE

We're excited to introduce a new annual event associated with our yearly Production Sale Starting in 2007, any colt or yearling (2006 or 2007 foals), and any unborn colts that were in the mare when she went through the ring in our 2007 sale, purchased from Running U livestock will be eligible to compete as a three year old in the Running U Livestock Ranch Horse Futurity. Because of the age requirement for competition, the first actual futurity will be held in the late summer of 2009. You are here to show your horse to the best of its ability.

You may compete in all four divisions or any single/combination

There is no set pattern for the rider to follow upon entering the arena. As long as you complete each of the assigned moves you are free to make your own patterns in the dry work. There is a total of 160 points possible for each contestant. Each horse/rider will be judged on a point system in the following four categories:

Horsemanship ~ 40 pts.

Contestants can ride with their reins crosses and/or both hands on the reins even if they don't ride with a snaffle bit. Riders must make 2 roll backs...one right and one left. Riders must change leads once in each direction, make two stops then back up once at least 15 feet. Also required are two 360 degree spins, one in each direction.

* Roll Backs: 10 pts * Circles and Lead Changes: 10 pts

* Stopping and Backing: 10 pts * Spins: 10 pts

Cow Work ~ 40 pts.

Contestants must call for the cow and box the cow at one end of the arena. They then must work their cow up the fence, stopping her once to the left and once to the right.

*Hold cow at end of arena: 20 pts.*Up and Down fence (2 turns): 20 pts

Roping ~ 40 pts.

Contestants will be judged on the expression, rate and tracking of their horse. The cow must look through the loop (there is a 2 loop limit). Rider will not be penalized for not catching. Each horse is being judged on expression, rating, tracking and stopping. Riders have 3 options: tie hard and fast, dally or breakaway.

*Expr/Rate/Tracking: 30 pts. *Stopping: 10 pts.

Conformation ~ 40 pts.

The conformation class will be judged at the end of all contestants' arena work as a group. Contestants will begin by leading their horse to and away from the judge: standing appearance: head, neck & withers and heart girth, hip, hind legs and gaskin.

*Lead to/away from judge: 10 pts *Standing Appearance: 10 pts.

*Head/Neck/Withers: 10 pts *Hrt Girth/Hip/Hnd Leg/Gaskin: 10 pts

Payouts for the top three places in each division:

Horsemanship, Cow Work, Roping, Conformation. The high scorer in all 4 divisions together will receive an Overall Champion Award. If you are interested in more information on the Running U Livestock Ranch Horse Futurity please call Shamus at 801-541-9228
